The One-Handed Putting Drill

The One-Handed Putting Drill

Many putting problems come from excessive hand movement during the stroke. The One-Handed Drill helps stabilize the motion and improve face control.

How to Set It Up

Find a straight putt between 5–10 feet.

Start by hitting putts using only your lead hand on the putter.

How to Perform the Drill

Make several strokes with just your lead hand, focusing on:

  • smooth tempo

  • stable face through impact

  • minimal wrist movement

After several putts, repeat the drill with your trail hand only.

Finally, return to your normal two-handed grip.

Why It Works

The drill helps isolate how each hand influences the stroke. When both hands return to the putter, the motion typically feels more stable and controlled.

This can dramatically improve consistency on mid-range putts.
