FBT X-Wave Golf Shaft Review – Round 1 (Ball Flight, Feel & Initial On-Course Performance)

Round 1 is in the books with the FBT X-Wave golf shaft.

First takeaway:

This shaft feels different and the ball flight reflects it.

Round 1 Setup

This test is using:

  • FBT X-Wave 4X
  • Weight: 48 grams
  • Torque: 4.5
  • C.P.M.: 255

On paper, it sits in a category that is:

– Lightweight
– Mid torque
– Slightly firmer profile than typical lightweight options

Initial Feel

Right away, one thing stands out:

It’s extremely light

At 48 grams:

  • Easy to swing
  • No sense of heaviness or drag
  • Allows the clubhead to be more noticeable through the swing

That last part matters.

– You can feel the head working

Which creates a softer overall sensation, even though the shaft itself plays slightly stiffer than expected.

Stiffness vs Expectation

Compared to what I would normally play:

– This shaft feels a touch stiffer

But not in a negative way.

  • No harshness
  • No boardy feel
  • Still smooth through transition

It’s a controlled stiffness and not an aggressive one.

Ball Flight (Early Observation)

This is where it gets interesting.

The ball wants to stay straight

Through Round 1:

  • Start line feels stable
  • Less curvature than expected
  • Misses are more controlled

There’s an early sense that the shaft is helping:

– Reduce unnecessary movement in the ball flight

What’s Emerging After Round 1

It’s early, but a few things are clear:

  • Lightweight feel is a major advantage
  • Shaft plays slightly stiffer than expected
  • Ball flight is trending straighter
  • Overall feel is smooth and controlled

What I’m Watching Next

As the rounds build, the focus shifts to:

  • Shot dispersion (left/right patterns)
  • Distance consistency
  • Performance under faster vs smoother swings
  • Whether the “straight flight” trend continues

Because shafts aren’t judged on one round.

They’re judged on consistency over time.

Round 1 Takeaway

After the first round:

  • Extremely light and easy to swing
  • Slightly stiffer feel, but still smooth
  • Ball flight is noticeably straight
  • Clubhead feel adds to overall comfort

A different feel than expected, but it’s a strong start.
